High Water Rescue

On the Evening of Saturday, March 3rd 2018, the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance Inc. was requested to respond to assist in EMS operations by the Bay Shore Fire Department during a High Water Rescue at the Lakehouse Restaurant on Maple Ave in Bay Shore. 

EMS Command was established by Chief of Department Jason Hoffman. Under his lead, 2nd Assistant Chief Alex Mullin Managed triage of rescued civilians. Captains Anthony Garcia Jr and D. Christopher Guszack operated BSBRA’s special Operations Vehicle and provided illumination to the Incident Command Center and the designated rehab area established on Aldrich Ct. 

BSBRA was able to supply 3 ambulances with mutual aid assistance from Exchange Ambulance of the Islips for 1 ambulance to the scene. the Islip Fire Department was mutual aided for 1 ambulance to cover the Bay Shore EMS District. 

The high water rescue operation lasted just under 2 hours and working alongside the Bay Shore Fire Department, the West Islip Fire Department, East Islip Fire Department, Islip Terrace Fire Department and the West Sayville Fire Department were able to rescue just over 100 civilians, bringing them to dry, level land. The Suffolk County Fire Coordinators Office as well as the Town of Islip EMS Coordinators responded to assist in resource management. The Suffolk County Police Department ensured scene safety and traffic control for the area. No injuries were reported. High tide was the suspected cause to the dramatic flooding following the recent Nor’Easter the Tri-State area had late last week.
